Florida State moves up to No. 3 in major polls after another blowout victory
After a pair of blowout victories to open the 2023 season, the Florida State football team is now ranked No. 3 in both major polls.
The Seminoles are ranked only behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan in the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Florida State came into this season ranked No. 8 in both polls but surged into the top five with a season-opening rout of then-No. 5 LSU. Mike Norvell’s team is now No. 3 follow its 66-13 victory against Southern Miss on Saturday, plus Alabama’s home loss to Texas.
The Longhorns made big jumps in both polls, up to No. 4 in the AP and No. 6 in the coaches’ ranking.
Georgia received 55 of 62 first-place votes from the media poll, while Florida State received three and Michigan and Texas each got two.

In the coaches’ poll, Georgia received 64 of 65 first-place votes, while Michigan received one.
This is the highest ranking an FSU team has achieved since starting out the 2017 campaign at No. 3. The last time the Seminoles have been ranked this high during a regular season came in 2016, when Florida State reached No. 2 before suffering an ugly loss at Louisville and falling outside of the top 10.
Florida State returns to action next Saturday at Boston College. That game is scheduled for noon on ABC.
