Christmas is coming early for Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles’ fanbase.
Jordan Travis, who burst onto the national scene this season with a record-setting campaign that helped lift Florida State to a 9-3 regular-season record and No. 13 national ranking, announced Monday he is coming back to FSU for his senior season in 2023.
There has been speculation that Travis might look at jumping to the NFL after his breakout season, which culminated with him earning second-team All-ACC honors, but he instead has opted to stay with the Seminoles for one more year.
In his first full season as Florida State’s starting quarterback, Travis completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 2,796 yards with 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also rushed for 367 yards and seven touchdowns, and caught one touchdown pass.

With the return of Travis, Florida State expects to be a legitimate contender for the ACC championship and a candidate for the College Football Playoff in 2023. The Seminoles won their final five games of the regular season, with four of those wins being blowouts.
According to Pro Football Focus, Travis had the third-highest offensive grade among quarterbacks in the country. He also is only the fourth quarterback in Florida State history to account for more than 3,000 total yards and 30 total touchdowns in a season. The other three were Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke and Jameis Winston.
