Florida State Softball storms into Regional finals with 8-0 win over USF

Senior Amaya Ross blasted a pair of home runs and sophomore Ashtyn Danley delivered a sterling performance on the mound to lead the No. 5 Florida State softball team past USF, 8-0, on the second day of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
Saturday’s win propels the Seminoles to Sunday’s championship round, where they will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent. Auburn and Robert Morris will play this afternoon in the first elimination game, then the winner of that game will take on USF to see who gets to take on Florida State.
FSU would need just one more win to claim the Regional championship and advance to Super Regionals, while the Seminoles’ opponent will need to beat them twice to advance.
Ross got Florida State on the board first with a two-run blast to center field in the top of the second inning. The Seminoles then extended advantage to 4-0 one inning later.
Isa Torres started that rally with a one-out single, and Jahni Kerr followed her with a single of her own. Katie Dack then walked, and Michaela Edenfield dropped in an RBI single to make it 3-0. Senior Hallie Wacaser then drove in another run with a ground out to third.

Florida State pushed another run across in the top of the fifth when Torres scored on an RBI single from Katie Dack. The Seminoles had a chance to blow the game open at that point, but USF made a pair of nifty defensive plays to rob Edenfield and Jaysoni Beachum of hits that would have driven in runs.
The Bulls could not keep the ‘Noles at bay for long, however. Ross hit her second homer of the day in the top of the sixth, and pinch hitter Shelby McKenzie delivered a two-run blast to make it 8-0.
While Florida State’s offense was having its way with USF’s pitchers, Danley was equally dominant against the Bulls’ lineup. She allowed one hit and two walks in five shutout innings to earn the win. Freshman Jazzy Francik then pitched a scoreless sixth to end it.
