Veteran Florida State linebacker Amari Gainer enters transfer portal
Following a five-year career with the Seminoles, Florida State linebacker Amari Gainer has entered the transfer portal and will look to finish his career with another program.
Gainer, a redshirt junior out of Tallahassee’s Chiles High and the son of former FSU wideout Herb Gainer, stayed home to play for the ‘Noles and became a part-time starter as a redshirt freshman in 2019.
He announced he was entering the transfer portal on Monday and explained his decision on social media.
The news was not exactly surprising considering he walked on Senior Day before the Florida game.
During his career with Florida State, Gainer totaled 210 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss and six sacks in 45 career games.

Gainer signed with Florida State in 2018 and redshirted before posting three solid seasons with the ‘Noles the next three years. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker recorded at least 59 tackles from 2019-2021.
This season, Gainer recovered from a lower-body injury to return for the second half of the season, finishing with 17 tackles. He helped FSU finish this year strong 9-3 by winning the final five games of the 2022, including signature victories over rivals Miami and Florida.
FSU head coach Mike Norvell expressed appreciation for Gainer’s contributions to the program on social media.
