After six years of planning and fundraising, with a number of stops and starts along the way, the Florida State athletics department will finally break ground today on the school’s new standalone football facility.

The project, which will be named the Dunlap Football Center, will feature more than 150,000 square feet of space for athletic training facilities, weight room, meeting rooms, coaches’ offices and other amenities. It will be adjacent to the existing practice fields and connected to the indoor practice facility.

Saturday’s groundbreaking event will be attended by FSU President Richard McCullough, athletics director Michael Alford, head football coach Mike Norvell, Seminole Boosters President/CEO Stephen Ponder, representatives of the Dunlap family and other supporters.

The project’s tentative completion date is before the start of the 2024 season.
