BREAKING: Florida State WR Mycah Pittman to enter transfer portal
One of Florida State’s highest-profile players has announced his intention to transfer. Seminoles wide receiver Mycah Pittman announced via social media on Friday afternoon that he will enter the transfer portal.
In one season at Florida State, Pittman finished second on the team in catches (32) and third in receiving yards (330). He also was FSU’s starting punt returner.
The announcement comes in spite of uncertainty surrounding Pittman’s health. In March, Pittman revealed on his YouTube channel that he underwent hip surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Pittman has one year of eligibility remaining.
Impact on Florida State in 2023
Though a Pittman departure would be significant, it’s hard to quantify just how much on account of his recovery time frame.
Though he amassed a solid amount of production as a receiver in 2022, the rising redshirt senior arguably was more important in two other details of the game: Blocking and in punt returns.
Along with segment-mate Johnny Wilson, Pittman turned in handfuls of impact blocks to spring bigger plays in 2022. Position coach Ron Dugans went so far as to credit Pittman for making that kind of effort contagious.
But perhaps most importantly, Pittman stabilized an element of Florida State’s program that had suffered massively in recent years: Punt returning. In his first year after transferring in from Oregon, Pittman racked up 169 punt return yards on 18 returns.
