Former FSU star Jordan Travis announces NFL retirement, says leg 'never responded' to rehab
Former FSU star quarterback Jordan Travis, who had his college career cut short by a catastrophic leg injury, has now announced that his playing career in the NFL is over before it started.
Travis confirmed Wednesday afternoon that he has informed the New York Jets, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, that he will be retiring from the sport.
“On November 18th, 2023, my life and career took an unexpected turn,” said Travis, who went down in a late-season game against North Alabama. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with my doctors and medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”
After beginning his college career at Louisville, Travis transferred to Florida State in 2019 and started 38 games over the next four seasons. He was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and overall ACC Player of the Year in 2023 after passing for 2,756 yards with 20 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
Travis also finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting that year, despite missing Florida State’s final three games.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Travis expressed nothing but gratitude.
“As I reflect on my journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft,” Travis said. “I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career. To my family and friends — your unwavering support has meant everything to me. To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love — Thank You!
