Former Oklahoma starting RB Gavin Sawchuk signs with FSU

The Florida State football team has landed an important addition to the running back room as former Oklahoma starting running back Gavin Sawchuk has signed with the Seminoles.
FSU announced the signing on Sunday.
Sawchuk’s decision comes after his official visit to Florida State on Friday. Since he entered the portal late in the spring window, the Seminoles were the only visit he took during his recruitment.
“I’m excited to welcome Gavin into the Nole Family,” Florida State coach Mike Norvell said in a release. “He is an explosive back who has a chance to be a game-changer. He is the complete package out of the backfield. He has home-run ability, tremendous ball skills and is fantastic in pass protection. We’ve seen glimpses of that all coming together, as he was as good as any running back in the country during the back half of the 2023 season. Gavin has high character and a relentless work ethic that will allow him to be a positive addition to our program.”
The Littleton, Colo., native spent three years in Norman but apparently opted to leave after the Sooners signed top running back Jaydn Ott from Cal.
In his three seasons at Oklahoma, Sawchuk started 11 games, including four this past season.
Sawchuk’s redshirt freshman 2023 campaign was the best season for the 5-foot-11, 200-pound back. He played in 12 games that year and finished with 120 carries for 744 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sawchuk missed a good bit of playing time in 2024 due to injury, only playing in nine games and finishing with 39 carries for 128 yards and one touchdown.
One of his best games at Oklahoma actually came against Florida State in the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl, when he had 15 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown as a true freshman.
Sawchuck will likely compete for the starting job at FSU this fall. The Seminoles had five scholarship backs this spring — Roydell Williams and Caziah Holmes are both seniors, Jaylin Lucas is a redshirt junior, Samuel Singleton is a redshirt sophomore and Kam Davis is a sophomore — but none of those five appears to have a handle on the starting job going into the summer months.
Four-star freshman Ousmane Kromah is also set to arrive this summer.
