Former starting safety Sidney Williams leaving FSU, entering transfer portal
After an up-and-down career that once saw him starting at safety but ended with him primarily playing special teams, Florida State’s Sidney Williams entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.
Williams, a Louisiana native who finished his high school career in Alabama, was a member of Mike Norvell’s first signing class in 2020. He saw early playing time that season, racking up 22 tackles, and emerged as a starter at safety in 2021 before missing a large part of the season due to injury.

Before the injury, Williams started four of six games and registered 32 tackles with one interception during that 2021 season. But he played primarily special teams during the 2022 campaign and only saw snaps in five games on defense.
He finished the year with 12 tackles in 10 games.
Williams was the second Florida State player to enter the portal on Wednesday, joining offensive tackler Rod Orr.
Warchant is keeping a running tally of each of the Seminoles who confirm they are leaving this offseason or coming back for 2023.
