If the FSU baseball team is going to win the NCAA Tallahassee Regional finals on Sunday and advance to the Super Regional round, the Seminoles will have to do it without head coach Link Jarrett.

The Seminoles’ third-year head coach came out to complain at the end of the second inning after Mississippi State starting pitcher Karson Ligon struck out FSU’s James Hankerson Jr. and then shouted and gestured in his direction.

Jarrett appeared to be complaining about home-plate umpire Joe Burleson not immediately warning or sanctioning the Bulldogs’ pitcher. He also could have been upset that Burleson rung up Hankerson for the third strike on a check swing without checking with his fellow umpires.

Either way, after about a minute of arguing, Burleson ejected Jarrett.

FSU was trailing 1-0 at the time, thanks to a solo home run from Mississippi State leadoff hitter Gehrig Frei, who launched the first pitch of the game over the left-field fence.

The Seminoles need to beat Mississippi State once to advance to the Super Regionals, while the Bulldogs will need to knock off FSU twice.

Florida State won the first matchup between the two teams Saturday night, 10-3.
