FSU Baseball finishes season-opening sweep with 17-10 win over James Madison
James Tibbs didn’t have a hit through the first two games of the 2023 Florida State baseball season.
The Seminoles’ No. 3 hitter made up for that in a big way on Sunday, going 4-for-4 with a home run, triple and 3 RBIs. Jordan Carrion added three more hits and four more RBIs, on a two-run double and a two-run triple, and FSU rolled over James Madision 17-10 at Dick Howser Stadium to finish off a season-opening sweep.
Florida State is now 3-0 in the Link Jarrett Era.
The Seminoles scored one run in the first on a Jamie Ferrer RBI double — he was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. They then scored two more in the second on a Colton Vincent two-run double off the screen in right.
Vincent already has three extra base hits this season in eight at-bats. He had six all of last season.
After James Madison tied the game in the top of the third, thanks to three doubles off of FSU freshman starter Jamie Arnold, the Seminoles came back with a four-spot in the bottom of the inning.

Freshman Cam Smith launched the first home run of his career to right-center. Carrion delivered a two-run double down the left-field line, and from there, the rout was on.
Florida State scored in every inning except one the rest of the way, pounded out 20 hits, including 10 extra-base hits, on its way to the 17-run outburst.
Sophomore Treyton Rank had a two-run triple, Cade Bush had the two first hits of his Florida State career — including a double high off the wall in center field — and freshman Titan Kamaka made the most of his first career at-bat with a two-run homer to left to make the score 17-3.
The Seminoles’ bullpen, in relief of Arnold, pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings before James Madison scored seven runs in the ninth.
Doug Kirkland, in his first outing since 2020, pitched 2 1/3 scoreless and then Andrew Armstrong followed that up with two more scoreless frames for the Seminoles. Freshman Ryan Denison was impressive in his debut, pitching a scoreless eighth inning, before the bullpen came undone in the final inning.
