FSU Baseball lands commitment from Alabama transfer Jaxson West
Thanks to an Instagram post simply saying, “I’m coming home,” the Florida State baseball roster received another potential boost on Thursday afternoon.
Alabama catcher Jaxson West, a Tallahassee native whose older brother Gage previously played for the Seminoles, announced that he would be transferring to FSU and presumably competing for the starting catcher spot in 2023-24.
West played in 20 games for the Crimson Tide as a freshman in 2022, hitting .185 with one home run and 5 RBIs in 27 at-bats. He also had seven walks and just four strikeouts.

West, who is listed at 6-foot, 195 pounds, played at Chiles High in Tallahassee and was considered one of the top catching prospects in the country coming out of high school.
He was ranked the No. 3 catcher and the No. 35 recruit overall in the state of Florida by Prep Baseball Report. He was ranked the No. 4 catcher and the No. 34 overall prospect by Perfect Game.

West, who is a left-handed batter and a right-handed thrower, was ranked the No. 11 catcher nationally by both outlets.
FSU lost starting catcher Colton Vincent to graduation after the 2023 season, and the Seminoles didn’t get a ton of production from backup catcher McGwire Holbrook. The veteran West Virginia transfer battled injuries and hit .217 in 29 games.
One year earlier, he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors while hitting .318 with seven home runs for the Mountaineers. Holbrook was listed as a junior this past season.
Second-year Florida State head coach Link Jarrett has been adding several pieces to his roster in recent weeks.
