FSU Basketball lands high-scoring JU transfer Robert McCray

The FSU men’s basketball team just added some major scoring punch for the 2025-26 season.
Jacksonville University leading scorer Robert McCray, a 6-foot-4 guard, announced Thursday that he will be transferring to Florida State to play for new head coach Luke Loucks.
McCray averaged 16.2 points this past season for the Dolphins and 18.4 points one year earlier. He actually started his career at Wake Forest and transferred to Jacksonville after two years there — one of which was a redshirt.
Several schools were in the mix for McCray, but Florida State likely had an inside track with assistant coach Michael Fly on the staff. Fly came to FSU from Jacksonville shortly after Loucks was hired.
As impressive as McCray’s numbers were this past season, they were even better in 2023-24. He hit 50.2 percent of his shots from the field that season and 35.8 percent from 3-point range. In 2024-25, those numbers dipped to 42.8 percent from the field and 32.6 from beyond the arc.

The South Carolina native took his official visit to Florida State earlier this week.
McCray is the fourth transfer to announce a commitment or signing with Florida State. The Seminoles earlier landed former Clemson forward Chauncey Wiggins, former St. Bonaventure forward Lajae Jones and former Drexel guard Kobe Magee.
