FSU cornerback Azareye'h Thomas drafted in Round 3 by New York Jets
The pipeline from the FSU defensive secondary to the NFL continued on Friday night, as star cornerback Azareye’h Thomas was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
Thomas was the ninth pick of Round 3 and the No. 73 pick overall.
His selection marks the third consecutive year that FSU’s defensive backfield has produced an NFL Draft pick and the fourth in five years. The Seminoles have had six DBs selected in that time frame — Asante Samuel and Hamsah Nasirildeen in 2021, Jammie Robinson in 2023, Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones in ’24, and Thomas in ’25.
Fellow Florida State defensive back Fentrell Cypress is also projected to be a late-round pick as well.
As a junior in 2024, Thomas actually ranked second on the entire FSU defense with 52 tackles. He also was credited with four pass deflections.

Thanks to his size and coverage skills, many draft analysts reported that Thomas could have been a first-round pick if he had posted a slightly faster time in the 40-yard dash. He didn’t run the 40 at the Combine in Indianapolis, and he ran a time of about 4.5 seconds at FSU’s Pro Day.
Thomas was the first Seminoles selected in the 2025 Draft, and he is expected to be joined soon by defensive tackle Joshua Farmer.
