The Florida State football team has lost offensive tackle Bless Harris for the season, Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell said after Wednesday’s practice.

Harris, who started FSU’s season opener and played 57 snaps in his first-ever game as a ‘Nole, sustained an undisclosed injury during that game.

During warmups versus LSU on Sunday, Harris was seen with his arm in a sling. The former Lamar standout was one of the first transfers to commit to FSU this offseason; the redshirt junior was an early enrollee in spring and emerged as a clear starter for FSU in camp at right tackle.

“Bless is going to be out for the season. It’s something that is unfortunate for that young man, it happened there in our first game,” Norvell said. “He’ll be out for the season. Obviously will really test the depth of what we have. … We’ll miss Bless, but I know he’ll be back and ready and he’s going to be a really good player for us.”

In place of Harris, fellow transfer and former South Carolina Gamecock Jazston Turnetine started at right tackle in the second game of the season against the Tigers.

“Jazz started the game at right tackle. It was really good for him to be able to go through that game,” Norvell said. “He’s only been here for roughly six weeks, if that. He’s been having to learn a lot, there’s been a lot thrown on him. I really think he’s embraced some of the challenges of that. I thought he did a solid job there Sunday.”

While Harris is out for the year, FSU did get some good news on the offensive line. Multi-year starting center Maurice Smith returned versus LSU and started his first game of 2022 after missing the Duquesne game.

Also, former starter Darius Washington was dressed and available versus LSU in a sixth-man role. Washington has spent time at tackle, guard and center at times for FSU.

Harris is the second OL transfer to go down with a season-ending injury. The Seminoles lost backup center Kayden Lyles during preseason camp.

Fabien Lovett update

When asked about DT Fabien Lovett, who appeared to sustain an injury near the end of the LSU game, Norvell did not offer specifics but said the team looks forward to his return to action.

“We’ll continue to evaluate where things go with Fabien,” Norvell said. “[He] played so extremely hard in the game and he went down there at the end. He’s a tough human being. … As soon as we can get him back on the practice field, he’s going to be rolling.”
