FSU freshman DB Sam McCall announces once again he is entering transfer portal
Three weeks after announcing he was going to enter the transfer portal and then deleting his posts on social media, Florida State freshman Sam McCall has once again announced his intention to leave Tallahassee.
McCall posted a graphic on Instagram on Monday evening stating that he thanked Florida State University “for the opportunity to be a part of their program and supporting” him for the last year, but that he was not going to be with the Seminoles in 2023.
McCall’s bio page from Florida State’s official website also was removed on Monday.
The former Lake Gibson standout was the highest-rated prospect in Florida State’s 2022 signing class but played primarily on special teams this season.
The four-star recruit played as a reserve cornerback in five games, and he also saw action on kickoff returns and some coverage units. He averaged 17.8 yards on eight kickoff returns, and he also was credited with five tackles.

After deleting his initial posts in early November, McCall returned to the practice fields for Florida State that next day and appeared to be in good standing with the team through last Friday’s regular-season finale against Florida.
At the time of the earlier situation, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said he understood the frustration of a freshman not seeing much playing time.
“We’ve got young freshmen. Some are playing, some are not playing at all, some want to play more,” Norvell said. “If they didn’t have that in them, then they’re not supposed to be here. They’re not supposed to be at Florida State. But with that, it’s about trusting the process of that growth, trusting the process of what they’re doing and then being able to control.”
