Florida State men’s golf won the Tallahassee Regional at 29-under par Wednesday, nine strokes clear of runner up Ole Miss. PGA Tour Card-carrying Luke Clanton took home the individual title for FSU as well.

The top five teams from each regional make the NCAA National Championship tournament in at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The Seminoles advanced by a margin of over 30 strokes.

“How they started is how they finished,” head coach Trey Jones said. “Were focused all week — that’s not easy, you know — coming here playing at home with a little extra pressure on themselves, and they just went about their business.

“It’s a truly team win.”

Clanton went wire-to-wire to win individual honors by four strokes at 15-under par. He closed with a three-under 69 in the final round. This is the second time Clanton has won a regional, having won in San Jose in his freshmen year.

It is Clanton’s fourth victory this season.

“It’s really cool to get the win here as well. It’s regionals at home. It’s amazing, I’ll definitely be thinking about it later,” Clanton said.

Clanton was nearly flawless for the three days as he went on a 49-hole run without making a bogey.

“I think we’re kind of looking at the team (goal) more than anything, though,” Clanton said. “Just to get to nationals… been focused on one goal for nine months now, so we’ve been focusing on that. We got there, now we’ve got one job to do.”

Two other Seminoles finished inside the top ten; Tyler Weaver shot a final round 3-under 69 to finish the tournament at 6-under in seventh place. Redshirt-senior Gray Albright shot a 2-under 70 to finish one better; 7-under and sixth place overall for the tournament.

The other two Seminoles, Jack Bigham and Carson Brewer, both finished inside the top-30.

Florida State will now turn their attention the National Championship in Carlsbad, which run from May 23-28.
