FSU lands coveted OL Chastan Brown: 'We are fixing to get this thing rolling'
While most of Florida State’s 2025 high school recruiting class has been wrapped up for weeks, there were still a few more pieces that the Seminoles wanted to add, and they picked up a big one on Sunday.
Georgia three-star offensive lineman Chastan Brown, who was in town for his Florida State official visit, announced that he has committed to the Seminoles.
Brown was previously committed to UCF, so the addition of Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator and Herb Hand as offensive line coach obviously were huge factors in this decision.
“Me and Coach Malzahn have a really great bond,” Brown said shortly after the former UCF head coach moved to Florida State. “You can go ask him that yourself. Me and Coach Malzahn, we connect just like that. Ever since they wanted me, Coach Malzahn and I had a really great bond. That bridge can never be burned. …
“Anywhere you go, he said he’s going to make sure I’m good, so I trust him with that. That’s why I committed there for real. Because I trusted Coach Malzahn. And everything he said, I believed in that.”
In making his decision, Brown explained to Warchant that he already knew Florida State would be his future home on the day he decommitted from UCF.

Why was he so sold on the Seminoles?
“This is the Rebuild Class,” Brown said. “We got Ousmane Kromah, and I know him very well. I played against him a lot in football and basketball. I already told him I’m coming to FSU, and he was like, ‘Let’s get it man, and I’m waiting on you.'”
Brown said he actually committed to Florida State before he came to town for his official visit.
“It’s a great school. Academic-wise, it fit everything I wanted,” he said. “They got my two guys — Coach Hand and Coach Malzahn — and Coach [Mike] Norvell as well. As they have coached together before a few times, and it was just everything I was looking for. Coach Hand is going to develop me really well and have me ready. As I said, this is the Rebuild Class in 2025.
“Coach Herb is a great coach. He’s ready for me, and I know he’s going to get me ready for the league, so is Coach Norvell. We are fixing to get this thing rolling.”
