FSU Men's Golf extends lead with dominant 2nd round of NCAA Tallahassee Regional

The Florida State men’s golf team was once again dominant on the course Tuesday in Round Two of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, finishing with the lowest team round of the day at 7-under par.
The Seminoles were one of only three teams that were under-par during the round, and that gives them a 14-stroke lead over second place Ole Miss, which is at 7-under.
“They came out today exactly how we wanted them to, with the same mentality as we had yesterday,” Florida State head coach Trey Jones said. “We had some eagles on the fourth hole early on, and that kind of set the tone. From there, the golf course played harder today, so it was a little more of a challenge for them, and they had to fight a little bit harder as a group.”
Luke Clanton led the way for Florida State once again, shooting a six-under 66 for the second straight day at Seminole Legacy. An eagle on the par-five fourth seemed to light the fire for Clanton to fire off four more birdies the rest of the way.
“There’s not a lot that surprises me with him,” Jones said. “Fortunately, I got to walk with him most of the round today, and just his command of the golf ball and what it’s doing — mentality and attitude is just so far superior than other guys right now. I think he’s gonna shoot something even better tomorrow.”
Clanton currently has a six-stroke lead over the rest of the field in the Tallahassee Regional. Notre Dame’s Jacob Modleski, the ACC individual champion, was the next player behind him at 6-under.
FSU redshirt senior Gray Albright also had an impressive day in round two, shooting all the way up to a tie for third place with a 3-under 69.

Most of the work for Albright came on the back nine, where he carded three birdies in the last five holes.
“I feel like I just kind of took care of business and just kind of stuck to how we play it every day,” the Florida State senior said. “This is our home course, so obviously we’ve played it a ton. And yeah, I just tried to keep it simple and do the same things that we always do out here.”
Despite not having his best day, shooting a 1-over 73, Tyler Weaver remains in the top 10 at 3-under for the tournament. Jack Bigham was the other score to count for Florida State, as he also shot 73, putting him at even for the tournament.
Redshirt freshman Carson Brewer also had to battle, shooting a 2-over 74. He is also at even for the tournament.
The Seminoles are the only team with no players over-par for the tournament through two rounds.
FSU will tee off the final round at 7:30 a.m. for the third straight day on Wednesday. This will be the final round at Seminole Legacy for both Luke Clanton, who is turning pro, and Gray Albright, who has run out of eligibility.
Admission to the tournament is free.
