Flip Alert: FSU lures Edge target Chris Carbin away from Georgia Tech

A recruitment that wasn’t looking promising for FSU earlier this week — with Georgia Tech sitting inside the nation’s top 10 and the Seminoles struggling on the field — has flipped for Mike Norvell.
Three-star Edge/Jack linebacker Chris Carbin announced Sunday afternoon that he has flipped from the Yellow Jackets and committed to Florida State. The announcement came via On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
“The legacy and the culture, everything going on down there, I love it,” Carbin told Warchant’s Matt LaSerre. “I love the energy they bring, all the fans, the stadium, all that. It really just felt like home.”
The Powder Springs, Ga., product is rated as the No. 82 Edge prospect in the 2026 class.
Carbin officially visited FSU for the Pitt game and, after that game, stated that FSU was the leader in the clubhouse. He had glowing reports for what he saw at the Jack linebacker spot and how he would fit into the program.
One of the difference makers in Carbin’s recruitment was communication; a recent visit from defensive line coach Terrance Knighton was significant.

“I told the staff this morning, they were so happy,” Carbin said. “Very excited. They were screaming. Coach Norvell was screaming mostly, and coach T-Knight.”
Michael’s analysis on Chris Carbin to FSU
This comes as a surprise as most felt heading into the week that Georgia Tech was the team grabbing back the momentum. But behind the scenes, the Seminoles were really working the angle of making an early impact, and that message started to resonate. Then after FSU’s dominance in a win over Wake Forest, the shift in this recruitment started to take place.
This is a huge pickup for FSU, which was in big need for a Jack linebacker in this class. Carbin has been one of the top priorities for the ‘Noles. He can play both Edge and the Jack linebacker spot, which is essential for the ‘Noles in this defense.
