FSU Softball gears up for big tests during trip to Oregon

After a setback against No. 6 Texas A&M last week, the FSU softball team looked to bounce back last weekend in the Dugout Club Classic as well as in a doubleheader in Jacksonville on Wednesday. And the Seminoles did just that.
Florida State won all five of its games over the weekend, then went on to beat both UNF and Jacksonville on the road Wednesday.
“I think [after] Texas A&M, we had a lot of good conversations,” FSU head coach Lonni Alameda said. “I think the ability to come back the next week and implement some of those things you wanted to work on and be better at. I think pitching-wise, we executed some good pitches in some good situations this weekend, which we needed last weekend. I think offensively, we were more of a unit. I think defense was pretty sharp, too, so yeah there’s some really good stuff that we learned.”
The main message from Alameda to her team following the Texas A&M doubleheader loss was to finish games and play a full seven innings. The head coach thought she definitely saw that during the Dugout Club Classic.
The Seminoles are now taking their first of two cross-country trips this season, where they will face Oregon, Oregon State and Portland State.
The Ducks are the headliner of the week, as they are currently ranked 12th in the country.
The last time Florida State took a trip to Eugene, Ore., was 2017 in the last regular-season series prior to the ACC tournament. At the time, the Ducks swept the Seminoles, however, FSU went on to win the ACC a week later.
Since then, Florida State has played Oregon three more times — twice in Tallahassee, and then another time in the College World Series in 2018 when FSU went on to win the national championship.

The Ducks are 20-1 to start the season, with their only loss coming on the road to Arizona State in extra innings. They lead the country in stolen bases with 81, and they also rank in the top 20 nationally in batting average and are fourth in home runs.
“They have good pitching, they’ve got some depth in the pitching,” Alameda said. “They’re fast. They’re a very fast team. But they are hitting a little more for power than I think they expected, or maybe they projected in the beginning. Nut they are definitely adding both that speed and power. And then you know just the elements — if we call them elements — but we’re going to have some rain and some overcast and some things that we’re not use to. So you add that to it.
“Then the pretty excited fans they have out there that support their team and really get after it. So all those things when you put it together, it’s going to be good competition for us.”
FSU will open up against Oregon State tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET and then Oregon at 9 p.m., with play continuing throughout the weekend.
