Release from FSU Sports Information:

The best freshman in the country wore garnet and gold this season as Jaysoni Beachum became the first Florida State Seminole to win the TUCCI/NFCA Division I Freshman of Year award on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City. Beachum was a unanimous selection and became the first ACC player in league history to win the award.

The Tallahassee native put together the greatest freshman season in Florida State history and put herself all over the Florida State record books in her first season as a Seminole. Beachum broke the freshman records for batting average, RBI, and on-base percentage. Her 16 home runs were the second-most home runs by a freshman and were tied for the sixth-most ever by a Florida State player.

Beachum drove in 66 runs which was a new FSU freshman record and was the fifth-most by a Seminole. The ACC Freshman of the Year was one of just three players in school history to hit 15 or more home runs and record 60 or more RBI.

Beachum ended the season with a .417 average which is the third-highest single season average in Florida State history. She also cracked the top 10 single season list for slugging percentage as her .743 slugging percentage ranks eighth in FSU history.

Beachum led the Seminoles’ explosive offense this season as she led the Noles in batting average, hits, home runs, RBI, total bases and on-base percentage and was second on the team in OPS, runs scored, slugging percentage and walks.

Known for her offense, Beachum also continued Florida State’s tradition of having great defensive play at the hot corners. Beachum started 61 games at third base for the Seminoles and made just five errors in 164 attempts.

Beachum was a First Team All-ACC honoree and was just the third true freshman in school history to be named First Team All-Region. She was named a First Team All-American by D1Softball today, a Second Team All-American by Softball America and was Softball America’s Freshman of the Year.
