When FSU’s Ryan Fitzgerald and Alex Mastromanno were named first-team All-Americans by the American Football Coaches Association after the 2024 season, they became the first placekicker and punter from the same school to earn that distinction.

On Saturday, Florida State made sure the pair will be remembered by visitors to FSU’s campus for years to come.

During a Legacy Weekend ceremony in front of the Moore Athletics Center, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell congratulated the two special teams stars before their All-America bricks were unveiled.

“I know your football careers are not done,” Norvell said. “I know you have great futures in front of you. But I just want to personally tell you how much I appreciate the example that you’ve been. I’ve been fortunate throughout my career to be around a lot of great players and a lot of great specialists that are where you’re going, and you two are as good as anybody I’ve ever been around.”

Fitzgerald was a perfect 13-for-13 on field goals during the 2024 season, and he was 5-for-5 on kicks from at least 50 yards. His five 50-yard field goals were the most for an FSU kicker in school history, and he is credited with the second-, third- and seventh-longest field goals by a Seminole.

During the ceremony, Fitzgerald thanked Norvell and special teams coordinator John Papuchis.

“Obviously, a big shout out to Coach Norvell, just pushing me to be my best every single day,” Fitzgerald said. “And same with Coach JP — just unwavering belief in me to be my best and to see the potential that I had. And then to share this experience with Alex has been pretty cool. Half-a-decade here with him has been nothing short of a great experience.”

Mastromanno shared similar sentiments and reflected on when Norvell offered him a scholarship while he was still back home in Australia.

“I do remember that phone call 5 1/2 years ago when you offered me to come here, and you said, ‘We’re going to make you the best punter in the country,'” Mastromanno said. “And I really believe that. And there were times where you believed in me more than I did myself. So thank you for empowering me.”
