To help FSU football fans get acquainted with new quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who transferred in from Oregon State after starting his career at Clemson, we’ve reached out to a couple of reporters who covered him at his previous schools.

Joe Freeman, a senior writer with The Oregonian and OregonLive.com, spoke with our Ira Schoffel about Uiagalelei’s one season in Corvallis, Ore. Among the topics discussed were how the veteran quarterback won over teammates and impressed fans with his composure and performances, and what the Seminoles might be getting in him.

The new FSU quarterback passed for 2,638 yards and 21 touchdowns with 7 interceptions during his season with the Beavers.

Matt Connolly, a college sports reporter with On3, covered Uiagalelei during his time at Clemson. He discussed the pressure the young signal-caller faced as a highly touted newcomer, and why things didn’t work out the way anyone expected during Uiagalelei’s years with the Tigers.

While he won’t be guaranteed the starting job at FSU, Uiagalelei is expected to take the reins of the offense in 2024 while young quarterbacks Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek get some time to develop.
