Florida State officially announced the signing of former Nebraska linebacker Stefon Thompson on Saturday afternoon.

Here is that release:

Transfer linebacker Stefon Thompson has signed with Florida State, head coach Mike Norvell announced Saturday.

“Stefon is a player we pursued heavily a year ago,” Norvell said. “He has shown to have tremendous versatility and playmaking ability. I’m excited for what he will bring into our linebacker room and how he will complement the group.”

FIRST REPORT

Florida State has secured another transfer portal commitment as former Nebraska linebacker Stefon Thompson jumped on board with the Seminoles Saturday morning.

Thompson’s commitment comes following a visit to Florida State on Friday. The graduate transfer had actually already visited FSU last year when he entered the portal after starting his career at Syracuse.

The connection between all three schools, of course, is defensive coordinator Tony White. Thompson played for White at Syracuse and Nebraska, and they now will be reunited at Florida State.

Thompson played in 11 games for the Cornhuskers this past fall, starting one, and he recorded 27 tackles with two pass breakups. However, his best season came at Syracuse in 2021, when he had 79 total tackles, eight for loss and six sacks.

The 6-foot-1, 240-pound linebacker missed nearly the entire 2022 season after sustaining a major injury in the season opener. He then transferred to Nebraska in 2023.

While part of a LB rotation with the Cornhuskers, Thompson played 175 snaps this season. According to Pro Football Focus, he posted an overall grade of 76.4.
