Happy Homecoming! FSU snaps skid with 42-7 rout of Wake Forest

Duce Robinson didn’t actually get into the end zone until early in the fourth quarter, but the Florida State Seminoles’ junior wide receiver had already made a massive mark on Saturday’s Homecoming game.
With FSU and head coach Mike Norvell in desperate need of a win after four straight losses, Robinson set up three of Florida State’s first four touchdowns with big catches, then he hauled in a TD pass of his own to lead the Seminoles to a 42-7 victory over Wake Forest.
Robinson finished the night with five catches for 148 yards and his one score — an 11-yard pass that gave the ‘Noles a 42-0 lead.
The 42-7 win was Florida State’s first ACC win in over a year, and it was a stunning performance given the way the Seminoles looked last time out at Stanford.
After scoring just 13 points in a mistake-filled performance in California, there were rampant questions about Norvell’s job security heading into the bye week. But FSU apparently made great use of the extra practice time and delivered its best performance since the season-opening upset of Alabama.
The Seminoles (4-4, 1-4 ACC) got on the scoreboard first when Tommy Castellanos sprinted into the end zone from 6 yards out to give FSU a 7-0 lead. That capped off a six-play, 80-yard drive that was sparked by a 65-yard pass from Castellanos to Robinson.
Florida State pushed its lead to 14-0 when running back Samuel Singleton Jr. rumbled in from 10 yards out to cap off a seven-play, 72-yard march. The bulk of those came on a 27-yard run by Singleton and a 30-yard pass from Castellanos to tight end Randy Pittman.

The Seminoles made it 21-0 on a 1-yard plunge by running back Gavin Sawchuk midway through the third quarter. That score was set up by a Ja’Bril Rawls fumble recovery near midfield and a beautiful one-handed catch by Robinson; his 29-yard reception set FSU up at the Wake Forest 16-yard line, and the ‘Noles scored four plays later.
Another big pass from Castellanos to Robinson put the Seminoles in position to go ahead 28-0 on their next possession. He was ruled out of bounds at the 1-yard line after a 39-yard catch, and Sawchuk again plunged in for the score.
Then the Seminoles made it 35-0 on a 7-yard touchdown run by Pittman after safety Earl Little intercepted a Wake Forest pass and returned it 35 yards to the Demon Deacons’ 20.
The Demon Deacons (5-3, 2-3) didn’t score until after backup quarterback Brock Glenn fumbled deep in FSU territory midway through the fourth quarter.
Castellanos finished the night with 271 yards on 12-of-16 passing.
