'I'm rocking with Coach Ham' ... High-scoring guard Primo Spears picks Florida State over Kansas
The Florida State men’s basketball team has landed its biggest transfer of the offseason.
Former Georgetown guard Primo Spears, who averaged 16 points and 5.3 assists per game last season with the Hoyas, announced Saturday night he has chosen to sign with Leonard Hamilton and the Seminoles over Kansas.
“I’m rocking with Coach Ham,” Spears said on Instagram Live.
Spears took official visits to Florida State and Kansas during this past week, and previously considered Arkansas and TCU as well.
Spears is Florida State’s third transfer pickup of the offseason. The Seminoles earlier landed VCU forward Jamir Watkins and La Salle guard Josh Nickelberry, and they are expected to sign at least one more player out of the transfer portal.
After posting a disappointing 9-23 record this past season, Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton vowed to reconfigure his roster heading into 2023-24.

Spears, a Connecticut native who started his college career at Duquesne, is listed at 6-3 and 185 pounds. The point guard entered his name in the transfer portal shortly after Georgetown fired head coach Patrick Ewing.
While Hamilton and the Seminoles have to be ecstatic about landing Spears, they likely will have to wait for word from the NCAA about his request for immediate eligibility. Because he is an undergraduate transferring to his third school, he will need a waiver to play during the ’23-24 season.
With two new guards and a forward now in the fold, Florida State likely will look next to bring in a post player to help a frontcourt that returns 6-10 senior Jaylan Gainey, who missed last season due to a knee injury, 6-10 sophomore Cam Corhen, 6-11 sophomore Baba Miller, 6-7 junior Cam’Ron Fletcher and 6-10 forward De’Ante Green.
