Four-star edge rusher Javion Hilson backed out of his commitment to Florida State late Sunday afternoon, becoming the Seminoles’ second high-profile DL decommitment in as many days..

“After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment,” Hilson posted on X/Twitter, “I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Hilson is a top-35 player overall in the 2025 class, as well as the second-best edge rusher in the country.

Hilson had previously said he shut down his recruitment after his official visit to Florida State in June.

“It feels great,” Hilson said at the time. “You know, I could have gone to any school in the world, but here, it always felt like home. Ever since I came here my sophomore year, day one, it just felt like the place for me. I love it. The defensive scheme that they run and everything.”

The four-star prospect was committed to Alabama before flipping to FSU after the retirement of former head coach Nick Saban. At one point, Texas was trending to perhaps flip Hilson away from the Seminoles, before he took his official visit to Tallahassee.

Hilson also took official visits to UCF, Florida and Texas.

Florida State will still have a chance to land the Cocoa, Fla., product in December, but it likely will require an improvement on the field after the Seminoles’ 0-2 start.

This decommitment comes one day after four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles flipped from Florida State to Texas. The Seminoles now only have one defensive line commit, four-star Kevin Wynn, who has also said he is still in talks with Georgia.

Florida State now has only 11 commitments in its 2025 class, which is ranked 17th nationally.
