Jordan Travis: Florida State has 'couple surprises coming' through transfer portal
The Florida State football program picked up a major commitment via the transfer portal Wednesday night in the shape of former Miami defensive tackle Darrell Jackson, and the Seminoles apparently are just getting started.
Star quarterback Jordan Travis, who announced his return for the 2023 season earlier this week, confirmed Thursday during an appearance on ESPNU’s SiriusXM Radio that he has been talking to some other prominent players in the transfer portal.
“Yes sir, 100 percent,” Travis told host EJ Manuel, a former Florida State and NFL quarterback who now is an analyst on the ACC Network. “I’ve been talking to a couple people. … Just recruiting a little bit.”
While he did not provide specific names, Travis hinted strongly that the Seminoles could be on the verge of bringing in some high-profile transfers.
“We’ll see soon,” the junior quarterback said. “We have a couple surprises coming in. So we’ll see that soon for sure.”

When speaking about his own decision to return for another year of college football, Travis described his recent NIL deal with The Battle’s End Collective a, “blessing.” But he added that the biggest reason for his decision was the opportunity to lead the Seminoles for another year.

“It played a small factor, for sure,” Travis said. “Honestly, man, having the opportunity to come back to Florida State and play in front of my dream school — I’ve always dreamed of this — it just wasn’t time yet. I had a lot of prayer. Talked to my family a lot. Talked to Coach [Mike] Norvell a lot. It just wasn’t time.”
After being a part-time starter the last two years, Travis burst onto the national scene this season with a record-setting campaign that helped lift Florida State to a 9-3 regular-season record and No. 13 national ranking.
He completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 2,796 yards with 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also rushed for 367 yards and seven touchdowns, and caught one touchdown pass.
Florida State will cap off the 2022 season against Oklahoma (6-6) in the Cheez-It Bowl at Orlando on Dec. 29. A win in that game would give the Seminoles 10 victories for the first time since 2016.
