Make no mistake, Braden Fiske was already having a solid season for the Florida State defense in November of 2023. The Western Michigan transfer had already proven to be a big-time addition to the Seminoles’ defensive front.

But what he did the last two games, particularly the win over Louisville in the ACC Championship Game, started his ascent up NFL Draft boards. And then what he did at the NFL Scouting Combine, where he proved to the most athletic defensive tackle there, proved to be rocket fuel.

So much so that Fiske was selected by the Los Angeles Rams with the 39th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft on Friday night. He became the third Seminole taken off the board and second of the second round, joining fellow defensive lineman Jared Verse (19th overall) and wide receiver Keon Coleman (33rd overall).

And he and Verse will be on the same defensive line once again. Fiske went to the Rams in the first round.

As the 39th pick overall, Fiske is set to receive a guaranteed contract of $9.3 million over the next four years, including a signing bonus of $3.57 million.

So, yes, his move from Western Michigan to Florida State indeed paid off. In a big way.

And although he only played one year in garnet and gold, Fiske became a fan favorite almost immediately in 2023 and then put together a legendary performance in the ACC title win over Louisville.

The Michigan City, Ind., native finished that game with nine tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks as the Seminoles won their first conference crown in nine seasons.

For the year, Fiske posted 43 tackles and six sacks.
