After a breakout first season with Florida State, including a record-setting performance in the Cheez-It Bowl, wide receiver Johnny Wilson is planning to return to the Seminoles in 2023.

Wilson, who led the Seminoles with 43 receptions for 897 yards and five touchdowns after transferring in from Arizona State, is the latest FSU player to sign a deal with The Battle’s End, an NIL collective that supports Florida State. His return was announced by the collective on Friday.

Wilson, who was a four-star prospect coming out of California in 2020, saw limited success during his two years with the Sun Devils. The 6-foot, 7-inch wideout caught six passes as a freshman and then 12 passes for 154 yards as a sophomore.

While playing in his first career bowl game against Oklahoma last month, Wilson hauled in eight passes for 202 yards to lead the Seminoles to a 35-32 victory. Wilson’s 202 yards were the most receiving yards recorded in the history of the Orlando bowl, and the most for any FSU player in a bowl game.

His 58-yard reception on Florida State’s final drive set up Ryan Fitzgerald’s game-winning field goal.

Wilson joins a long list of veteran Florida State players who have announced their returns in recent weeks, including All-ACC defensive tackle Fabien Lovett and safety Akeem Dent. Also returning on defense are linebackers Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, and cornerbacks Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones.

The Seminoles also have gotten good news about the return of several key players on offense as well, including quarterback Jordan Travis, leading rusher Trey Benson, offensive tackle Robert Scott and others.
