Let's Add Two! FSU Football lands former UNC WR Gavin Blackwell

Minutes after announcing the addition of former Oklahoma running back Gavin Sawchuk, FSU landed another “Gavin” in its 2025 transfer portal class. Former North Carolina Tar Heel wide receiver Gavin Blackwell informed On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he will be moving to Tallahassee.
Blackwell took a two-day visit to see Mike Norvell, Gus Malzahn and the FSU coaching staff this weekend. Clearly, the rising senior heard what he was looking to hear. Blackwell has one year of eligibility remaining.
FSU then announced that fhs signing was official.
“I’m excited to welcome Gavin to the Nole Family,” Florida State coach Mike Norvell said in a release. “He brings experience and versatility and has played in big games. He can stretch the field vertically with speed and has also proven to be a good route runner with the ability to separate from defenders. Gavin was productive early in his career before having to deal with injuries and setbacks throughout his journey. He will bring a veteran presence to our talented wide receivers room.”
In his three years in Chapel Hill, the 6-foot, 185-pound Blackwell amassed over 400 receiving yards and one touchdown.
As a recruit, Blackwell was a four-star prospect and was recruited by LSU, Penn State and Florida among others.

Blackwell now becomes the third receiver that FSU has landed in the 2025 transfer portal cycle; he joins Squirrel White (Tennessee) and Duce Robinson (USC), both of whom were spring semester enrollees.
Michael’s analysis on WR Gavin Blackwell to FSU
No, it’s not the sexy pick that we envisioned when the portal first opened up for FSU as the ‘Noles weren’t able to secure some highly productive receivers. But the talent is certainly there with his speed, his ability to make plays in traffic and be a potential deep threat for this FSU offense. The production or lack thereof makes this take a little bit of a risk because of the injuries he’s gone through, but the skill is there to leave a mark in some capacity.
I also have been told that FSU is keeping a close eye on adding another option in the portal that they could eventually target during this window. For now, they add a player that has experience and skill but is unproven. So now we wait to see if FSU explores more talent to finish off the position.
