UPDATE: Veteran UCF OL Adrian Medley commits to Florida State
One day after visiting Florida State and saying that the program felt like “family” to him, veteran UCF offensive guard Adrian Medley committed to the Seminoles on Saturday.
At FSU, he will be reunited with three of his former coaches from UCF, including OL coach Herb Hand and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.
Here is more from Medley’s visit on Friday:
EARLIER STORY
Adrian Medley had a lot of reasons to feel comfortable during his visit to Florida State on Friday.
For starters, as an aspiring young football player in Pensacola, he was a regular participant in Jimbo Fisher’s youth football camps.
“I used to come here every summer,” Medley explained.
On top of that, three of his former coaches at UCF — Gus Malzahn, Herb Hand and Tim Harris Jr. — are now on the Florida State staff. Malzahn is the Seminoles’ new offensive coordinator, Hand is the offensive line coach, and Harris is the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.
Medley started on Hand’s offensive line at UCF for most of the past two years.
“It feels like family here,” Medley said. “Obviously, I played with the coaches already. So I already knew them. I just love everything about it.”
And Florida State would love to have Medley as part of its reconstructed offensive line.
The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder said the Seminoles told him they’d like him to play left guard in 2025. It would be his fifth year in Malzahn’s system and his seventh year of college football.
Yes, seventh.
After redshirting as a freshman in 2019, Medley saw limited playing time for UCF in 2020 — a season that didn’t count for eligibility purposes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He then played in five games in 2021 but missed the entire ’22 campaign due to injury.
Medley played in eight games, starting five, during the 2023 season, and then he started all 12 games this fall.

With so much of that experience coming on Hand’s offensive line and in Malzahn’s offense, it’s no wonder why the Seminoles are eager to land Medley’s commitment.
“They just think that I’ll be a great fit to play here,” he said. “Just to be a leader in the room. I already know the plays and everything. They just want me to be here, come in and be a leader and start for them.”
While Medley said he did not commit to Florida State during his visit, he made it clear that the feeling is mutual and that he is very attracted to the Seminoles.
“I’m looking for a coach just like Coach Hand,” Medley said. “He’s a coach that poured into me a lot and got me where I’m at now. He’s played a big part in this, and he’s like a father-figure to me. Because when I was down, he was the one that built me back up to who I was.”
The veteran lineman said he has no other visits planned and added that he plans to make his transfer decision on Saturday.
And it sure sounded as if Florida State has the inside track for the Pensacola native.
“This right here feels like family. Like I’m meant to be here, plus it’s two hours up the road,” Medley said. “So I can always go back and see my family.”
