A dozen former Florida State Seminoles are taking part in the NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis this week, and the action got under way Thursday afternoon with testing for the defensive linemen and linebackers.

Defensive tackle Braden Fiske was the first Seminole to run the 40-yard dash, and he posted a blazing time of 4.78 seconds. He ran a 4.81 in his second run. That initial 4.78 was the fastest time for any defensive tackle at the Combine.

Defensive end Jared Verse and linebacker Kalen DeLoach also ran very impressive 40 times on Thursday. Verse posted a 4.58-second 40, which ranked third among defensive ends. DeLoach tied for second among linebackers with a 4.47.

Former Florida State defensive tackle Fabien Lovett and linebacker Tatum Bethune opted not to run the 40-yard dash; that means they likely will do that at FSU’s Pro Day on March 22.

Along with the 40, athletes at the Combine undergo a variety of other physical tests. Here are some additional notes about the Seminoles who participated Thursday:

Fiske also ranked first among defensive tackles in the vertical jump at 33.5 inches, and he ranked first in the broad jump at 9 feet, 9 inches.
