Midweek blues: No. 5 Florida State Baseball falls to Mercer for second straight Tuesday loss

The weekends have been going just fine for the No. 5 Florida State baseball team.
The Tuesdays, however, have been a bit dicey lately.
The Seminoles, who fell to Florida a week ago, lost their second straight midweek game at Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday night in a 9-3 defeat at the hands of Mercer.
Florida State falls to 18-2 on the season.
Starting pitcher Payton Manca gave up a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Seminoles trailed for the rest of the game as the offense failed to produce much of anything other than a Max Williams’ three-run homer in the sixth inning.
Mercer scored two in the first, one in the second and three in the third to take a 6-0 lead on the Seminoles. And the game never really got closer than that.
Mercer starting pitcher Jeb Johnson was dominant for most of his outing, pitching five scoreless innings before finally running into Williams’ bat in the sixth. All told, Johnson allowed three hits and three runs while striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings of work.
