NEW COMMIT: FSU lands 3-star defensive back Sean Johnson

FSU Football has seen its 2026 commitment drought come to an end. Archbishop Spalding (Md.) three-star defensive back Sean Johnson has announced that he has committed to the Seminoles over Penn State and others.
“It felt like home to be honest,” Johnson told On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
In March, FSU finally got the DMV-area standout back on campus, and they didn’t disappoint on his two-day visit.
“Oh, it was great, and I really liked this practice,” Johnson said. “Got to meet a lot of the new coaches, and there was some high-end intensity. And I really liked how the DBs worked together today. This was my first visit here. They are doing something special here. I like how the energy is between the players and coaches.”
Following the visit, the feeling was that it was an FSU vs. Penn State battle. However, after hearing Johnson cancelled his Penn State visit for late March, the momentum pointed to the Seminoles.
With this commitment, first-year safeties coach Evan Cooper continues to make his mark in the 2026 cycle for Florida State. In addition to Johnson’s commitment, FSU also leads for four-star DB Lasiah Jackson, and the Seminoles hold pledges from 2026 safeties Darryll Bell and Tedarius Hughes, both four-star prospects.
More from Johnson:
On FSU safeties coach Evan Cooper and the DBs: “I really liked how the older guys helped the younger ones with technique. Coach Cooper was great. It’s more than football with him. Not just a football coach, but a great man that cares about his guys. He likes me at any of the safety spots. I had a nice talk with Coach Norvell and he said they are doing something special and they want me to be a part of it.”

Michael’s analysis on DB Sean Johnson & FSU
This is a very nice pickup for the ‘Noles on a target that has long been high on the Seminoles. The moment that the new staff was put together, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back was one of the first names I heard, and I was told that a spring visit would be essential for FSU to make its move.
Johnson is a willing tackler and shows good instincts around the football to make passing windows tough. Simply put, he makes plays.
Johnson is now set to officially visit FSU in June, and I get the impression that’s the only official visit he’s taking at this stage.
