New FSU pitcher Trey Beard ranks among Top 5 transfer additions this cycle

The transfer portal window for college baseball will be open for a couple more weeks, but FSU’s acquisition of former FAU pitcher Trey Beard already ranks among the best in this cycle.
On3 rated the top 10 transfers to commit to a new school on Monday, and Beard checked in at No. 5 on that list.
What’s interesting about the four transfers rated above him is that three of them are leaving their current programs to follow head coaches taking other jobs.
Duke outfielder Jake Gracia, who is No. 1 on the list, is following former Blue Devils head coach Chris Pollard to Virginia.
Similarly, two of the Cavaliers’ former top players — outfielder Aidan Teel and pitcher Tomas Valincius — have announced they are leaving Virginia for Mississippi State. That’s where longtime UVA skipper Brian O’Connor will be coaching next season.
The only player rated above Beard on the list who didn’t leave with his head coach is Western Kentucky star outfielder Ryan Wideman, who has committed to Clemson. Wideman came in just ahead of Beard at No. 4.

Beard, a 6-foot-2, left-handed pitcher, went 7-1 for FAU in 2025. He posted an ERA of 3.14 and recorded 118 strikeouts in 86.1 innings. He also had a batting-average-against of .199, which was one of the best numbers in the nation for a starting pitcher.
The FSU pitcher allowed only five homers on the season and just 18 extra-base hits in his 16 appearances (15 starts) on his way to being named All-AAC first team.
The Dunedin, Fla., native had 12 outings in which he pitched at least five innings and six starts with double-digit strikeouts, including a career-high 12 in five innings against Fordham early in the season.
He only gave up more than four runs once in 2025 and that was five runs to UTSA, which advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals this season. He also pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out eight in a win over NCAA Tournament team East Carolina.
