Release from Florida State Sports Information:
The No. 1-seeded Florida State soccer team recorded its largest-ever postseason win with an 8-0 victory over Samford in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday night. The Seminoles recorded their 20th consecutive first-round win.
FSU wasted no time establishing its authority on the run of play as Sophia Nguyen sent in a dangerous floating cross that Jordynn Dudley met mid-air and headed down for a towering opening goal to kickoff the postseason. Dudley scored her fifth career tournament goal and has scored in three consecutive postseason matches dating back to last year’s College Cup Semifinals.
Dudley recorded her next point for Florida State just a few minutes later as Carissa Boeckmann dispatched her first-ever goal for the garnet and gold. Taylor Suarez was able to deal her second consecutive assist off to Marianyela Jiménez, who fired a tight shot into the bottom corner off a tough angle to put the Seminoles up three goals going into the break.
Florida State continued its fiery attack as ACC All-Tournament honoree Solai Washington notched a quick goal coming out of the half. Huff connected with Dudley to make it a handful, the two leaders in scoring eclipsed 60 combined points. Olivia Lebdaoui curled her effort into the top right corner before Wrianna Hudson scored an incredible goal off the crossbar to send the home crowd into full roar.
