No. 17 FSU Soccer Knocks Off No. 4 North Carolina, 4-2, on Senior Night

The No. 17 Florida State soccer team (11-2-2, 6-2-1 ACC) used two second-half goals to defeat No. 4 North Carolina (14-3-0, 7-2-0 ACC), 4-2, on Senior Night on Friday.
Underclassmen Jordynn Dudley and Solai Washington each scored a brace (two goals apiece) to extend the 25-game unbeaten streak at home, the third longest in program history.
After both sides had spells of momentum, Florida State capitalized off a set piece chance as Taylor Huff’s upper-left corner shot was denied by the Tar Heels keeper before the ball made its way back to Huff as she floated a ball to Sophia Nguyen, who headed the ball down into the path of Dudley, who struck the opener. Dudley scored her fifth goal of the season in just her seventh start.
Less than five minutes later, a UNC defender dropped a pass back to her keeper before it was intercepted by Washington. After swooping past the keeper, she slotted her effort into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Washington has scored in three consecutive games after recording just one goal before the stretch.
The No. 4 team in the nation responded swiftly with two back-post goals off corner kicks to leave the game level after the first 45 minutes.
The Seminoles came out of the break with intensity and intention, resulting in several great chances. Dudley drove through the UNC side of the pitch and laid off a pass to Washington, the freshman unleashed a shot off her left foot into the opposite side netting and reclaimed the lead. Washington recorded her first-ever multiple goal performance against a top-five opponent.

FSU was able to pull away midway through the second half as Wrianna Hudson provided a towering header into Dudley’s path, which she dealt with accordingly to extend the Seminole lead. Dudley has recorded multi-goal performances against North Carolina in back-to-back matchups.
Florida State claimed victory against North Carolina in the 50th matchup between the two sides and took all three points at home for the first time since 2015. This also marked the first-ever victory by multiple scores against the Tar Heels.
The Seminoles will conclude the regular season on the road at Miami on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and available to watch on ACC Network.
