No. 9 Florida State Baseball falls at UF, 5-4, to drop season series

It wasn’t as ugly as the previous two losses, but it was still another painful defeat for the Florida State baseball team.
The No. 9 Seminoles lost to the Florida Gators, 5-4, on Tuesday night in Gainesville to drop the season series to their rivals and fall for the third straight game overall. Florida State is now 25-7 on the year and has lost the season series to the Gators for the third time in four years.
After getting run-ruled in the final two games of last weekend’s series against Wake Forest, and allowing 29 runs in the process, the FSU pitching staff was much more effective in this one. But just not quite effective enough.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, reliever Maison Martizez allowed a single and then issued a four-pitch walk, setting the stage for the biggest hit of the game: Brendan Lawson’s three-run homer to right field to give the Gators a 5-2 lead.
The Seminoles were able to score two in the seventh on a Myles Bailey RBI single and a wild pitch that scored Gage Harrelson, but Florida reliever Jake Clemente didn’t allow a baserunner over the final two innings. He struck out four to pick up the save and send the Seminoles back to Tallahassee with a third straight defeat.
