North Carolina crushes hapless Seminoles, 35-11; FSU falls to 1-8
Only three games left! That’s perhaps the only good news for the Florida State football team and its fans.
Squaring off against a North Carolina team that was .500 on the season and only had one conference victory all year, the Seminoles dropped their fifth straight game and fell to 1-8 on the season (1-7 in the ACC). With their 35-11 victory, UNC improved to 5-4 and 2-3.
It was North Carolina head coach Mack Brown’s first career victory against his alma mater in 12 tries.
Florida State actually led 3-0 early after Ryan Fitzgerald drilled a 56-yard field goal in the first quarter. But after that, it was almost all Tar Heels.
At the end of the first half, UNC led 14-3 and had an advantage in total yardage of 240 to 61. And the second half was more of the same.
Tar Heels star running Omarion Hampton rushed for two touchdowns in the third quarter — on runs of 31 and 1 — to give him four of the day and push the Tar Heels’ lead on Florida State to 28-11. In the fourth quarter, he added a 49-yard catch-and-run to tack on his fifth touchdown of the day.

Hampton finished with 172 yards rushing and 93 receiving.
Florida State’s only score in the second half came on a 28-yard pass from Brock Glenn to Ja’Khi Douglas.
The Seminoles once again rotated quarterbacks on Saturday, giving Glenn and freshman Luke Kromenhoek several series under center, and neither had a lot of success.
Glenn completed 6 of 11 passes for 123 yards and the one touchdown, and Kromenhoek completed 2 of 7 for 36 yards with two interceptions. The Seminoles were sacked seven times.
Florida State now hits the road to face Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish were off on Saturday and are 7-1 on the year.
