Now You 'Nole: Interview with former FSU All-America WR Kez McCorvey

In a new feature this offseason, Warchant managing editor Ira Schoffel will interview former Florida State players, coaches and others with FSU ties in a series titled, “Now You ‘Nole.”

During each interview, we will revisit how that person became a Seminole and also reflect on his or her life’s journey.

Next up in the series is a conversation with former Florida State star wide receiver Kez McCorvey.

McCorvey grew up in Mississippi and earned an offer to Florida State by dominating the competition at one of Bobby Bowden’s summer camps. He went on to start at FSU for four years and then got drafted by the NFL’s Detroit Lions.

After injuries shortened his professional playing career, McCorvey went on to coach in the CFL, in college football and on the high school level. He currently is North Florida multi-area director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he also does coaching and mentoring with area youths, as well as operating the Playmakers Inc. 7-on-7 youth football program.

In this conversation, McCorvey discusses his upbringing in rural Mississippi, his early rivalry and friendship with Terrell Buckley, his playing days at Florida State, his time in the NFL, why he played “angry” for most of his career, how his faith shapes his life, his special memories of Bobby Bowden and much more.
