Florida State’s starting pitchers had grabbed all the headlines coming into this weekend’s series against the University of Miami in Coral Gables.

And with good reason. The trio all boasted sub-1.00 ERAs so far this season.

But on Saturday night, with the series on the line, it was a reliever who stole the show for the No. 5 team in the country.

Florida State right-hander Peyton Prescott was nearly unhittable in four sensational innings of relief, helping lead FSU to a 10-6 victory over rival Miami to wrap up the series win.

After Seminoles ace Jamie Arnold was roughed up for seven runs on Friday night and then starter Wes Mendes was pounded for six runs in four innings of work on Saturday, it was Prescott who came on in the bottom of the fifth and essentially slammed the door shut on the Hurricanes.

He allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out seven in four innings of work against a Miami offense that had scored 16 runs in the previous 12 innings.

Florida State senior right-hander Joe Charles then came on and pitched a scoreless ninth for the Seminoles, who are now 20-3 overall and 5-1 in the ACC.

The Seminoles actually trailed 3-2 heading into the fourth inning Saturday night.

That’s when the FSU lineup put together one of its best innings of the season, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Gage Harrelson and Max Williams both had two-run singles, and Myles Bailey and Jaxson West both added RBI singles of their own as the Seminoles sent 12 batters to the plate.

Williams added a solo home run in the top of the eighth to give Florida State added insurance and a 10-6 lead.

Harrelson, West, Hunter Carns and Brody DeLamielleure all had multiple hits for the Seminoles, who have won every weekend series of the season so far in 2025.

They take on No. 13 Florida on Tuesday night in Jacksonville.
