Florida State added another piece to its secondary of the future on July 4 by securing the commitment of three-star safety Red Morgan of Phenix City, Ala.

This was a prospect that the Seminoles spent a great deal of time on since late in the spring when he took an unofficial visit to FSU and received a scholarship offer. From there, the relationship just seemed to take off as more teams — including Miami and Auburn — started to turn up the heat.

In the end, Morgan chose Florida State. He announced his decision Tuesday evening on Instagram Live and became the Seminoles’ second commitment of the day.

“Being around the coaches and the players gave me that feeling,” Morgan told On3 Recruiting Director Chad Simmons about his decision. “The energy there was great and there was something about that feeling that was different. The coaches kept it real, they didn’t cut any corners and that stood out to me down there too.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Morgan is listed as the 49th-best safety in the country and the No. 26 prospect in Alabama. Morgan chose the Seminoles over Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Mississippi State and Cincinnati. However, he only took official visits to Florida State, Cincinnati and Miami.

FSU made a lasting impression on his official visit early in June, even though it was his first one. He said he loved spending time with Florida State coach Mike Norvell and everything about the trip.

“I know Coach Norvell is doing something big for FSU,” Morgan said at the time. “It’s something I’d like to be a part of. … This trip, it was different, you know what I’m saying? Going through everything, they were just breaking everything down to me, you know, letting me know how everything goes.”

He said he even loved hearing FSU’s famed warchant.

“It’s music to my ears,” he said. “It’s just so satisfying.”

The three-star defensive back also raved about the number of ways FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller would use him in the Seminoles’ defense.

Morgan joins four-star WR Elijah Moore, who also committed to Florida State on Tuesday.
