RPM Picks logged for Florida State to land linebacker target
It’s going to be another very busy week for Florida State in the transfer portal as the Seminoles look to host a half-dozen or so visitors.
One of the key positions to pay attention to will be linebacker, where the Seminoles already have one signing but now are looking for more. Two linebackers are expected to visit FSU this week — former North Carolina LB Caleb LaValee and former Georgia Southern star Marques Watson-Trent — and I have now logged an RPM pick for the Seminoles to land LaValee.
Florida State nearly landed the Georgia product the first time around out of high school, and I feel like the Seminoles’ revamped coaching staff will be able to reel him in this time.
There has been strong communication between both sides since LaValee entered the portal, and there’s a feeling that he could be a very good fit with new defensive coordinator Tony White’s 3-3-5 scheme. It’s also a plus that he is just a redshirt freshman with multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was very involved in this recruitment the first time, and the Seminoles looked like the early leader before he eventually signed with UNC.

While LaValee played sparingly this season, he saw extensive action in the Tar Heels’ Fenway Bowl game against UConn and finished with a team-high nine tackles. On3 national expert Pete Nakos also has logged an RPM pick for Florida State to land LaValee.
FSU earlier signed Nebraska LB transfer Stefon Thompson, and the Seminoles likely will still push for Watson-Trent, even if LaValee jumps on board.
