Former Miami defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. entered the transfer portal this week and has now committed to Florida State.

The Florida State football team has landed its first huge pick-up out of the transfer portal this cycle as former Miami defensive tackle Darrell Jackson announced Wednesday he has committed to the Seminoles.

Jackson recorded 27 tackles, three sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss this past season for the Hurricanes. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds.

Jackson was high school teammates with FSU defensive tackle Joshua Farmer at Gadsden County High, where they played for former Seminole great Corey Fuller. Fuller is now in a support staff role at Florida State.

Although he has already transferred once, from Maryland to Miami, Jackson’s mother told CaneSport on Monday that her son is expecting to get a waiver to play right away for the Seminoles. Jackson would need special clearance from the NCAA because undergraduates are currently only allowed to transfer once with immediate eligibility.

Jackson fills what could be a significant area of need for the Seminoles.

Florida State is definitely losing one starting defensive tackle after this season, as Robert Cooper has exhausted his eligibility. Fabien Lovett has not announced a decision after his junior season, but he did participate in Senior Day festivities before the Florida game, so there is speculation he will leave for the NFL.
