Even after a very difficult start to the 2022-23 season, Florida State men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton remained hopeful that the Seminoles would turn things around in time to make some noise in the ACC Tournament.

Time is running out on that dream.

The Seminoles wrapped up their regular season on Saturday at Virginia Tech, and it was another lopsided defeat. Virginia Tech broke open a four-point game with a 16-2 run midway through the second half and cruised to an 82-60 victory.

The win pushed the Hokies’ record to 18-13 and 8-12 in the ACC, while Florida State fell to 9-22 and 7-13.

The 22 losses are the most by a Florida State men’s basketball team in school history.

Junior Caleb Mills led the Seminoles with 14 points, while Darin Green Jr. and Matthew Cleveland added 10 apiece.

Guard Sean Pedulla led Virginia Tech with 25 points; he hit 6 of 8 shots from 3-point range. As a team, the Hokies connected 16 of 34 shots from long range.

The Seminoles next will play Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
