A lack of depth and an aggressive Florida State defense was not a good combination for visiting Tarleton State on Tuesday night at the Tucker Center.

The Seminoles held the visiting Texans to 31-percent shooting and forced 13 second-half turnovers en route to a 72-52 victory. With the win, FSU improves to 3-0 on the season; Tarleton State falls to 0-3.

Freshman point guard Daquan Davis led Florida State with nine points as the Seminoles did their damage with a balanced scoring attack. Twelve different FSU players scored, and eight scored at least six points.

Tarleton State, which played just six players extended minutes, wore down in the second half after trailing by just five at halftime, 33-28.

The Texans connected on 14 of 45 shots from the field and 4 of 15 from 3-point range. They finished with 23 turnovers and were out-rebounded by Florida State, 37-25.

FSU’s bench players scored 38 points, compared to 13 for Tarleton.

The final score would have been much more lopsided had the Seminoles shot better from long range and the free-throw line. They shot 45 percent from the field, but only 19 percent (4 of 21) from beyond the 3-point line and 63 percent (24 of 38) from the charity stripe.

Along with Davis, four Florida State players scored eight points — Chandler Jackson, Jamir Watkins, Bostyn Holt and Justin Thomas. Jackson and Taylor Bol Bowen led FSU on the boards with five rebounds apiece.

Next up for Florida State is a home game Friday at 6 p.m. against the rival Florida Gators.

BOX SCORE: FSU 72, Tarleton State 52
