Starters Shyheim Brown, Jeremiah Byers out for Florida State vs. Memphis
The Florida State football team will be without two of its most experienced starters today when the Seminoles take on Memphis at noon inside Doak Campbell Stadium.
Senior right tackle Jeremiah Byers is going to miss his second consecutive game with an apparent lower-body injury, and junior safety Shyheim Brown is also going to be unavailable for today’s contest. Their absences were confirmed Saturday morning by Florida State to Warchant and other media outlets.
Florida State also will be without linebackers Omar Graham Jr. and Shawn Murphy. Graham was out last week as well, and Murphy has yet to play this season.
While the Byers news is not totally unexpected — he was seen walking with the aid of crutches at the Boston College game — Brown is the Seminoles’ leading tackler and emotional leader on defense. He has not missed a game since he was redshirted in 2021, playing in all 13 contests in 2022 and all 14 in 2023.
The Lake City product is Florida State’s leading tackler with 21 through two games.
Earlier this week, FSU announced that running back/return specialist Jaylin Lucas has been lost for the season due to injury.
The Seminoles enter today’s game at 0-2, while Memphis is 2-0 and ranked No. 25 in the Coaches’ Poll.
Florida State is expected to get one happy return today as sophomore wide receiver Hykeem Williams plays for the first time this season.
