Ta'Niya Latson ties FSU record with 40 points in blowout win at Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. — Star shooting guard Ta’Niya Latson has flirted with Florida State’s single-game scoring record on multiple occasions already this season.
Now, she has tied it.
In leading the Florida State women’s basketball team to a 105-74 victory Thursday night at Virginia Tech, Latson matched the Seminoles’ 10-year-old school record with 40 points.
Former FSU start Natasha Howard set that mark at Syracuse on Feb. 13, 2014.
In tying the record, Latson connected on 18 of 28 shots from the field and 2 of 3 from 3-point range. The junior guard previously scored 39 points vs. SMU and 38 points at Tennessee earlier this season.
Latson entered Thursday’s game as the nation’s leading scorer at 27.2 points per game. Against Virginia Tech, she had 17 points in the first half and 23 in the second.

Joining Latson in double-figures was O’Mariah Gordon with 18 points and Makayla Timpson with 16. Gordon added a career-high seven steals and Florida State recorded 21 in the game. That was a season high for the Seminoles.
